Hmm, so, I’ve finished up my second week of work–though today was cancelled because a snowstorm shut down the university, but ah well. I’m definitely enjoying it so far, and I pretty much expected to, as it was what I was doing with the birds in my grad program–behavior experiments, but now with mice–and, surprisingly, wasps, as well (though, eventually, there will be some genetics/DNA studies going on, too, for both animals, which I’m admittedly interested in, even if I didn’t study that extensively). These are, mercifully, the relatively calm paper wasps, who are far less aggressive than those gatdang yellowjackets–in fact, they didn’t seem to mind me at all when I was moving them around yesterday.
But, yeah, not a singly wasp attacked me, and yet I was almost bitten during my mouse-handling class by an old grandma mouse who was blind in one eye but somehow sensed fresh blood anyway. Go figure. Anyway, after having been drill-pecked by finches for two years, I’m not terribly worried. It goes with the territory.
Speaking of finches, I’m definitely missing my two boys, and I hope to get them here in the next few weeks; I need to figure out a weekend to go home and get them–and more of the stuff I left behind since I had to pack up and move in a hurry.
I haven’t really explored everything in town yet–I did a bit last week during Pokémon Go’s Community Day event, but there’s still a lot more to see. This weekend is out, since I’m pretty much snowed in, but hopefully soon…
