I intended to spend the morning at the town festival going on this weekend.

Ended up shepherding a mama mallard and her 11 babies through downtown to the creek instead because the path required crossing busy streets and there was no way on this good Earth I was going to let her try that on her own–which she was already en route to doing by the time I found her.

Apparently she does this Every. Single. Year.  According to a postal worker who saw me, she lays her eggs each year in the bushes of the downtown post office and manages to con a human mark into escorting her to the creek each year because she knows at least one of these bleeding-heart primates will help usher her through the traffic.

So, yes, I was emotionally manipulated by a birb (I should have suspected she was doing this intentionally when she didn’t even get aggressive when I was near the babies).  I ain’t even mad, tho–and I’d do it again.
